KIM HUGHES
Senior Communications Officer
Kim Hughes is the Senior Communications Officer at the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut. Kim brings a multidisciplinary background spanning nonprofit leadership and communications. Most recently, she served as Director of the James Merrill House, a National Historic Landmark and writer-in-residence program, where she supported fundraising and led communications strategy. In that role, she managed donor stewardship and major gifts, and developed compelling narratives to support campaigns, exhibitions, and institutional growth.
In addition to her nonprofit leadership experience, Kim is a freelance writer and content strategist, having partnered with regional businesses and organizations to craft brand messaging, feature stories, and digital content. She previously served as a Writer and Content Coordinator for Mystic Neighbors magazine, where she highlighted local stories and community voices across Southeastern Connecticut.
Earlier in her career, Kim worked for over a decade as a Speech-Language Pathologist in both educational and healthcare settings, developing a strong foundation in communication, advocacy, and client-centered care—skills that continue to inform her approach to storytelling and engagement.
Kim received her Bachelor’s degree from Emerson College and her Master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University.
