We will not be silent.

We, members of the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut’s Board and Staff, unequivocally condemn all acts of hatred and violence. There is no place for intolerance, prejudice, and bigotry in our community. We recognize that many in our region are struggling and suffering deeply due to the violence unleashed by Hamas on October 7th and the pursuant war in Israel and Gaza resulting in massive civilian death and suffering. Any incident of anti-Semitism and anti-Palestinian sentiments is unacceptable. We believe that to move towards greater justice and equity, we must speak out and confront such bigotry. We embrace all who are in pain and stand with them in solidarity and with a deep commitment to respect for human life, human rights and justice.

We are committed to using our space in the community and the philanthropic sector to promote the rights of people of all different backgrounds. We will provide grants to enhance the understanding and importance of tolerance and respect. This work is essential. Every person in our country should be treated with dignity and respect. It is the richness of the diversity of our human family that ensures thriving communities.

More than ever, we are committed to creating a healthy, thriving, sustainable Eastern Connecticut with greater equity for all.

We will not be silent.
