The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut announced Monday it has awarded $1,036,680 in scholarships to 323 students from 36 cities and towns across the region.

Scholarships range from a one-time award of $500 to a multiyear scholarship of up to $5,000 per year. The foundation said in a news release that it increased multiyear and renewal grants this year, to ensure students can complete their degrees.

“We are honored to carry out the wishes of our scholarship donors in making financial awards to help students attend and successfully complete higher education,” Program Director Jennifer O’Brien said. “Many of the students we help are the first to attend college in their families.”

The foundation said since 1983, $9.8 million has been awarded to more than 3,100 students, thanks to 130 scholarship funds donors have established. To see a list of this year’s recipients, visit cfect.org/scholarships.
